Adam McKenzie commented on MH-8469:
-----------------------------------

Hi Judy,

Thanks so much for the suggestions. You are quite right that someone might want
camera only (say it was a shot of the blackboard, whiteboard or even a
sympodium stylus type input) or audio only. Right now it is quite dumb about
knowing what tracks are coming in and there just wasn't time for it to detect
the names and have them displayed to the user, I would love for it to be fixed
(we might even be able to get around detecting the input format in this case, I
did try to use what is called a decodebin the first pass that automatically
decodes the input type but it has some trouble figuring out what kind of mpeg2
stream is coming in (what capture agents still use as their default codec), I
don't think newer codecs like h264 will have the same problem)

If it were audio only we would definitely need to do some work on hiding the
output scale portion of the gui and giving formats that would be useful (mp3,
aac m4a, FLAC, etc.)

I was thinking for the output scale that those should really be check boxes
instead of radio buttons so you could go from a couple of inputs to X outputs.
Right now it just scales the video input to fit and places both video sources
side by side with a black background but you are right in that we should
probably include some more varieties of 16:9 (e.g. 720p) and 4:3 resolutions
(1024x768).

It would also be good to have the media files dumped into the working directory
of matterhorn by default instead of /tmp in case the tmp directory is on the OS
drive which might be quite small and slow.

Cheers,
Adam

> Here are some screenshots of the current ui. The first screen shows the drop
> down box where you choose a workflow. So "export to downloadable media" can
> be done on either files that are uploaded or on the inbox. (Ignore the new
> radio button "Archived media package", that's going away).
> The second screen shows the admin console, note that the status is "on hold"
> and that there is an action to "Configure Export"
> The third screen is technical. The top three radio groups identify different
> input parameters, sources, and output resolutions that can be dealt with. As
> these are manipulated, the actual command that is run on the server is shown
> in the text box below. This command can be modified by the admin if they
> feel knowledgeable enough to do so. The text box at the bottom is a list of
> where files will be processed on the drive. (This might not be necessary?
> Can't we just configure this in the workflow file and leave it out of the
> admin ui?)
> The fourth screen shows that the pipeline has started processing. (Bug: why
> does it say "On hold" at the beginning still?)
