The Capture Agent ("CA") runs on consumer hardware with various capture
cards added on as needed for the installation (see
http://opencast.jira.com/wiki/display/MH/Reference+Hardware+%28Trunk%29).
Cameras are then attached to the inputs of those cards. The agent runs
Ubuntu, with Matterhorn running inside Apache Felix. The agent is
accessible through REST based APIs which consume XML, JSON, or plain
text depending on the endpoint.

We use jQuery extensively throughout the rest of the UIs, so knowledge
of that library is a big plus as well. If you end up doing this project
you *probably* won't need much Java so I would not be concerned about that.

An example of the current state of this project can be found at
http://testca.usask.ca:8080/capture/index.html (username: admin,
password: opencast). As you can see it's really simple, so if this is
the project you want to do you should start thinking about how to make
that UI jive with the one at http://testadmin.usask.ca:8080 (same
username and password as above). We have some hard requirements of what
the UI needs to be able to do, but once those are met you can add all
the bells and whistles you want!

Alas, this is my first year being a mentor so I can't offer much in the
way of advice here. I would prefer to stay on the mailing list for now,
and I'm sure that the other mentors will get back to you early next week.
