Hank, authentication is generally being done using Spring Security and not by 
Matterhorn itself. The one exception to the rule is the database user provider 
which will authenticate user and password against users that are stored in the 
Matterhorn database.

The configuration files you are looking at 
(LdapUserProviderFactory-default.cfg) are used for authorization only, adding 
roles from the LDAP tree to already authenticated users.
