Just a quick update on what I have been trying to do to reproduce the problems
seen with the CA. I have been scheduling 1 minute captures on wheeler (UCB's
agent) every minute in quick succession to try and determine if it was an issue
with the scheduling and running of capture, zipping and ingesting jobs. That
doesn't seem to trigger any unexpected load once they have finished zipping and
ingesting, cause any instability, or cause any memory leaks.
I scheduled quite a few 1 hour, 30 minute captures 1 minute apart on arts143ca
(usask agent) but unfortunately didn't notice that the disk I had allocated for
the server was insufficient to handle all of the captures so they stayed on the
capture agent and this changes the behavior of the agent unfortunately. I have
started capturing long captures on arts 143 again with a much bigger disk on
the server (120GB for now).
Chris and I are guessing that a possible candidate for the problem is the agent
not being able to finish zipping before the next capture begins and so on and
so forth that could result in starved processes, disk contention or some other
bad behavior so I am going to try and schedule wheeler to do 1 hour long
captures followed by 1 minute breaks in between, if that doesn't seem to cause
it any problems I will start longer captures maybe 3 hours with 1 minute in
between to hopefully aggravate it and cause the issue to be reproduced.
