Dear Opencast Community,

Next month, we will be holding an election for 1 position on the Opencast board. Voting will take place September 24 to 27, and the new board member will be announced on October 1st.

The role of the Opencast Board is to lead, guide, and support the Opencast Community and its related projects -- Opencast Matterhorn especially. While the committers (and larger community of contributors) drives the project itself, the board acts as a custodian to the well-being of the project's community and its projects on a strategic and political level.

For a full description of the board's role, composition, and operations, please visit http://opencast.org/opencast-governance. For a current list of board members, please visit http://opencast.org/leadership.

There are several ways for the Opencast community to participate in this election:
*
Invitation for adopters to vote*
Votes for the board elections are given to organizations who have identified themselves as adopters on http://opencast.org/matterhorn-adopters. You need not have deployed Matterhorn in production, just be willing to share intentions to at least pilot Matterhorn in the near future. Each adopter organization gets 1 vote to cast. For those adopter organizations who have active Matterhorn committers on staff, each vote will be counted as 3 votes.

If you are not on this list but consider your organization an adopter, please add your organization *prior to September 19* in order to participate in this year's election. To register your organization as an adopter, please first see that your organization is not already listed, then follow the instructions at the top of http://opencast.org/matterhorn-adopters. You will need to create an account if you don't already have one, and request that it be approved. Please let me know if you have any questions about adding your organization or updating an existing listing.

*Invitation for nominations*
Any member[1] of the Opencast Community is welcome to nominate themselves or nominate another member for a board position. This is a 3-year term beginning October 2012. Nominations will be accepted until 8am Pacific on Monday, September 17th.

To submit a nomination, please visit http://opencast.org/opencast-board-nomination. You will need an active account on the website in order to submit the nomination.

*Invitation to join an Elections Committee
*We need a few good people willing to assist with the elections process and help ensure an appropriate and fair process. Members of the elections committee must be members[1] of the Opencast Community, but cannot be a nominee. Please contact Michelle at [email protected] if you are interested in serving on this committee.

If you have any questions about any of the election procedures or processes, please contact me at [email protected].

Looking forward to our 2nd annual election!

Michelle

[1] A "member" of the Opencast Community is roughly defined as anyone who is currently subscribed to the Opencast Community mailing list.
