Hello,

I have just an experience of Debian 2.2 on my quadra 650
without printer and of Linux on my PC with printer so I have
not THE answer to your problem.

/etc/printcap is the file that describe how your printer work,
on which port it is, which program is used to convert the file
from postscript to PCL for example (ghostcript or something
like this).

Perhaps you can find a program on your distribution as
magicfilter, or rhsprintfilter, or something like this that
will configure your /etc/printcap for you (with
magicfilterconfig --force for example).

Take a look at your installation manual or doc on your hard
disk on which you will perhaps find help.

Ghostscript (it translates a postscript file to your printer)
can perhaps be used to print your file with a command line, by
redirecting your file directly to the good port of your
printer, with the good device (option -Sdevice), but I don't
know if Ghostscript has a device for Laserjet 1100. Take a
look at man ghostscript or info Ghostscript because it has
generic driver too.

I have not my PC in front of me to help you in better way. SO
you will have to look at the various documentation, man file
and info file on your Mac.

Best wishes

Yoann Poupinet
