Hello.
I am still new to Linux (but I am gaining experience with each day)! I have
recently installed YDL2.0 on my beige G3 Mac desktop. I am now trying to get
my HP LaserJet 1100 printer to work in Linux. It prints just fine using
PowerPrint software and cables under OS8.6.
I have read most of the HOW TOs from the LinuxPrinting.org site. A lot of
that info is over my head (for now), but I have learned a lot too. I figured
out how to print my printcap to my console window. This is it:
PRINTTOOL3## LOCAL ljet4 600X600 letter {} LaserJet4 Default {}
lp:\
:sd= /var/spool/lpd/lp:\
:mx #0:\
:sh :\
:lp= /dev/ttyS1:\
:if= /var/spool/opd/op/filter:
That's all I get. I hope that this is enough to tell someone out there what
I need to do to get my printer to print something. I have tried "echo 'hello
world' /dev/ttyS1" but nothing happens. I have tried various things using
printtool, but so far nothing.
It is as if no signal or anything is going to the printer. The printer is
hooked up to the Mac serial port, and does work fine in OS 8.6. Thank you
for any help that I can get! (Please include "how to's" with any suggestions
as I am still trying to learn my way around Linux.)
