I am curious as to the answer to this question, myself. However, even
more off topic, can an older Mac running Unix or Linux network to a
newer Mac running OS X?
I have a number of Classic Macs at home, including a venerable SE/30
and a new-to-me 7500/100. I would like to network one (or both) of
them to the iMac on which I am running Mac OS X. Mostly, I would like
to run the SE/30 as a printer and occasional file server. Is this
possible? How would I achieve this?
I have found that OS X, for all its good points, has almost no
capability of networking with older Macs running older versions of
the Mac OS over an Ethernet connection. (Privately, I think this is a
major flaw, and Apple should be ashamed of themselves for omitting
this functionality.) It had been suggested that I consider setting up
the SE/30 with AUX. I have no experience with AUX, but read that it
is a version of Unix that runs on older hardware and integrates with
Mac System 7.x. Is this true? If so, could I telnet from the SE/30
under AUX to the iMac running OS X? Are there other solutions I
should consider?
Thanks for your help!
Best wishes,
Clint
