I think I have some good news for Jeroen (unless I've had far too much
coffee this morning while trying to get YDL 2.2 installed on my G4).

I enlarged that image of the NIC he's looking to buy -- it has a DEC 21041
"Tulip" chipset, which is supported under Linux. It's apparently problematic
in that there were some broken drivers floating around for it in the past
... but there are patches available and some distros should ship with
patched drivers, according to what I found on google. YMMV, of course.

>From his earlier post about the Farallon card, I think he misread that
sourceforge archive page
(http://lppcfom.sourceforge.net/fom-serve/cache/720.html). If Jeroen's
Farallon card has the DEC 21143 chipset like the one referenced on this
page, it also has a Tulip chipset. Christian comments, "stick with the
supported DEC 2114x chips; don't get a cheap card." It sounds like it is
supported, so maybe just hit a buggy driver and/or a configuration problem.
BTW, from that page, another person stated that his DEC 21041 NIC (same
chipset as the card you were asking about in the post I referenced below)
was automatically recognized in older versions of LinuxPPC (R4 and R5). OK,
gang, what does he do next to manually configure that Farallon card?

I found this reference page to the Tulip chipset interesting ... there's a
diagnostics program available, too:

http://www.scyld.com/network/tulip.html

Maybe he can get this program to run under PPC? Curious how it all works out
....
