WFT?!? An 8200?!? Oh, that's right ... a model from the other side of the
pond:

http://www.lowendmac.com/ppc/8200.shtml

So it's basically a 7200 in a mini-tower case. Right on. You'll need to keep
around a minimal Mac OS partition, and you'll boot into Linux using BootX.
Partition the drive using your third-party utility, put a small (100 MB
should do) HFS or HFS+ partition on it, and leave the rest unallocated.
Shoe-horn a minimal Mac OS installation on the HFS/HFS+ partition, install
BootX, restart (or fire up BootX manually), then install Linux. Of course,
you might need to set some BootX prefs for the install of your particular
distribution.

Now I have a question ... if the 8200 isn't listed as supported on the YDL
site, but the 7200 is, shouldn't it work without a hitch? FWIW, it isn't
listed on their "not officially supported / unsupported" list. Mandrake's
site doesn't have any answer about specific Old World support, or if it
does, they've managed to hide it well. Here's their 8.2 FAQ URL, in case
that helps as a starting point
(http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ppcFAQ.php3). Which distribution are you
planning on using? Let us know how it works out!

Cheers,
Dan Willson

Subject: Drive setup needed for linux?

Hi,

Just a quick query!

I wan't to install linux on a 8200 i have here and onto a 2.4gb drive i
have.
The HD is not apple and drive setup thus won't touch it.
My question is this, does linux need the drive prepared by drive setup or
will I be fine to do it from within linux? I intend to use the drive
exclusivly for linux.
