I don't understand the 'optimization' comment.

I'm running YDL on a 7600/200 and a 9600/233. The 9600 also works 
with a G3 upgrade card in place of the stock 604e.

I have not upgraded to 2.3, but I don't think the latest version uses 
the new gcc (3.x) since it is based on RedHat 7.2. My understanding 
is that only the new gcc has different optimizations for different 
PowerPC processors.

The only other 'optimization' I could think of would be for the 
graphics chips, but I never use Xwindows, so I couldn't tell you 
anything about that.
