Hi,

I just joined this list because I have a couple of older Macs I think could benefit from Linux: a G3 266Mhz iMac and a PowerBook 3400c (maybe BSD would be better on the 'Book). Is there a searchable archive so I won't need to bother people with my newbie questions? I noticed the posts for today seemed pretty technical, and I am guessing people might get annoyed reading my "duh, what's a command line?" type of questions.

I think you'll be pretty Ok here. There's enough newbie stuff that you shouldn't be overly concerned.

BSD is definitely a little more work to get a working GUI, but is much more maintainable as a command line system. So might one assume that you want to run X on the iMac and use the 3400c without a GUI?
