Hello Declan,
your Utility Task is already in use by a DBM client. "dbmcli -d ... -u ...,... db_cons
sh ta" gives you a list of the database tasks, one is marked as Utility. Find out
which DBM client is using it and end that client or the connection of that client to
the database ("dbmcli ... db_cons cancel <task_index>").

Subject: Error 24988 - sql error [util_connect ...]; 1,task limit -
anothe r session already connected in UTL mode.
Hi list,
Looking through the archives, I see the following:
http://listserv.sap.com/pipermail/sapdb.general/2002-July/007387.html &
http://listserv.sap.com/pipermail/sapdb.general/2002-July/007391.html
I believe I have the same problem, as for the past couple of nights, our
SAPDB backup via TSM/ADINT has failed.
If I connect to the database that has this problem, I see two control
sessions. Is there a way to definitely disconnect the users with the
control session? If, using the DBMGUI, I select Instance->Sessions and kill
the control sessions, they are still there.
I've stopped the database and restarted it (including vserver), but I don't
think that's done any good.
Here is a list of all the processes from <sid>adm on the database server at
the moment:
