Hello Gary,

a file system copy is not the recommended way for a database copy, use the
backup+recovery mechanism instead.

Subject: Copying SAPDB

Tilo,

I am running SAPDB 7.2.5B23 on HP_UX 11.11 and have made a copy of the instance using
a filesystem copy while the system was up. I have renamed the Instance to a new name.
Is there a way to bring the copied system to db_warm state. Everytime I try to start
it, it says "1,database not running". Duh! Is there a recovery method for this. I.e.,
as is with Oracle. Rebuild the control file and alter database open resetlogs?

I am going to run a DBMGUI backup over the weekend while the system is down and try a
recovery of it on Monday, but I wanted to try this, just to see if I could make it
work.

Thanks Gary Shepherd
