How do you know it "crashed"? I believe more that it hung because it
couldn't continue writing to the log and is waiting to get more space.

You create the log area when you install the DB. Additional space can also
be added during runtime, use the DBMgui for that. Or you can switch the
logmode to "DEMO" so that the log is continously overwritten.

In DBMgui:

- Select the database
- Instance - Configuration - Log settings

Then a wizard will open and guide you through the settings.
