Hi Thomas,
thanks for your reply.
I have SuSE Linux 9.1 Professional, and I'm trying to get MaxDB 7.00.14-1
running. I installed the RPMs from the MySQL/MaxDB download page. I
installed *all* RPMs.
The tool you mention is DataManager. Trying to the demo database with it I
get the following error message:
[unixODBC][MySQL MaxDB][LIBSQLOD SO][MaxDB] Unable to connect to data
source;-709 CONNECT: (unknown host localhost (see /etc/hosts))
I also tried the fully qualified host name instead of localhost in my ODBC
data source, but with no effect. A look in /etc/hosts clearly shows that
there's is an IP address of 127.0.0.1 for localhost and 127.0.0.2 for the
FQHN (Fully Qualified Host Name). But maybe, the connection won't work with
this type of IP address? Could it be that I need something like
192.168.4.44?
BTW, I ran the program x_server before trying this, although it is nowhere
mentioned in any of the docs that this would be necessary in order to use
the webtools, eg.... But I guess it is required, right?
A general question simply would be: Might the RPMs be buggy? Would it be
better to try a .tgz install?
Thanks for any helpful hint!
Alex
