Actually the SDBINST version of 7.6.0.10 worked ok for me AFTER I realized that I needed to do a lot more to create a DB that just db_create.
I also was sent the ftp location of the 7.6.0.12 RPMS which also seem to work better now that I am doing a full create. I'm not fully functional yet but at least the base system seems to be working for me. The part that I was missing is describe in the following URL. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/maxdb/install.html#install The concept of an admin mode is a little odd to me, but does seem like it would cut down on mistakes for DBA privileged users. I've done a lot with Oracle and some with Sqlite, a little with Postgress and Mysql.
