I have to say that I agree with this for a few different
reasons (besides the issues of size, performance and
stability that you mention below).

For us, the tool sets used for managing and backing
up SAP DB/MAX DB have been very weak. That paired
with the lack of available training, a help site that
is not conducive to understanding the product, and
the total lack of any kind of external publications
(books, newsletters, etc.) is leading us to look
at Oracle as a possible replacement for our current 
installations. 

I hate to sound disparaging, but this is the experience
we have had (we are a Linux shop that manages several
installations of both MySQL and PostgreSQL).
