Hi,
I'm brand new to MySQL and enterprise level databases in general. I've only worked in Access prior to this.

I'm testing all of this out on my machine before I mess with our test server so I'm working on
Windows XP
MySQL: 5.0.16
MaxDB 7.6.0.16

We're migrating our site out of Access and into MySQL and one of the things I need to be able to do is synchronize data between two servers (production and test) because we have meta data in the database. (I had already migrated our database into MySQL.) I asked on the Win32 list and I was told that the best way to do that was to use FEDERATED tables to link one database to the other. Apparently I need to use MaxDB to have FEDERATED tables.

So I downloaded MaxDB and the ODBC driver, installed them on my machine (rebooted) and tried to interface with it and I couldn't figure it out. I don't have any shortcuts in my Programs menu, and when I read the documentation online it said I needed to open dbmgui<n>.exe I did a search for it on my machine and I don't have that file.

When installing I did the following:
Start installation/upgrade
Server + Client
Install + created database
created a namespace for the database that I'll need to use for this project .... wish I could use more than 8 characters left size at 256 MB (no idea if I should have increased it or not.

I get a prompt saying that I have to reboot, but both of the buttons (one being open database manager) are greyed out.

So I reboot and I have no new programs in my Programs folder and the file dbmgui doesn't exist in the sdb directory or in my Program Files folder.

I'm thinking I must have missed something obvious, like another tool I should have downloaded, but I can't find anything in the documentation anywhere.

Help, links, anything would be much appreciated.
Joelle
