I am attempting to install and test maxdb for the first time. I am using a Windows 2003 Server x64 with Dual AMD processors. I have downloaded the latest binaries from the website as well as the GUI database manager. Both appeared to have installed normally. However I cannot seem to get anything to work. I cannot create a database instance nothing. I get the following error: -4 database instance not found I have looked in the control panel for any services that I thought related to MaxDB. I found the following ones: SAPDB - m760016, SAPDB - m760016 (omstksknl), SAPDB - m760016(quick), and SAPDB - m760016 slow) All of them are set to manual. When I try to start any of them I get the Windows message the service started then stopped. In the event viewer was a more detailed description of the error. ERROR-TID 0xA28 PID 0x968 MsgID 18159 Could not open volume CHECKDEV,rc=2 Someone on the IRC channel suggested a problem with xserver. That service shows as running in the control panel.
