Tilo,
Do the modules brbackup, brarchive etc..... Need to be on the machine
that the MaxDB instance resides on? This is not the case in my
situation. I thought maybe BACKINT needs those modules to execute.

Please Advise

Hello John,

Backint_cfg (was /sapdb/data/wrk/TYL/bsi.env yesterday) seems fine, it
basically tells the DBM Server to use the Backint for MaxDB distributed
with MaxDB. File backint_adapter.config is used by that Backint for
MaxDB and should look more like the following (see also
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/maxdb/en/91/24b97d483411d5992500508b6b8b11/fram
eset.htm for introduction and
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/maxdb/en/91/24b983483411d5992500508b6b8b11/fram
eset.htm for an example):

STAGING AREA: /tmp/STAGE1 1 GB
STAGING AREA: /tmp/STAGE2 1024 MB
FILES PER BACKINT CALL: 1
BACKINT:
"<path+name_to_Backint_for_Oracle_of_Veritas>"
PARAMETERFILE OF BACKINT: "<path+name_of_backintoraconfig.utl>"
HISTORY FILE: /sapdb/data/wrk/logs/backint_adapter.hist

INPUTFILE FOR BACKINT:
/sapdb/data/wrk/config/logs/backint_oracle.in
OUTPUTFILE FOR BACKINT:
/sapdb/data/wrk/config/logs/backint_oracle.out
ERRORFILE FOR BACKINT:
/sapdb/data/wrk/config/logs/backint_oracle.err

MAXIMAL DELAY OF BACKINT CALL: 30

You have then also to create the parameter file of Backint for Oracle
("<path+name_of_backintoraconfig.utl>"). What has to be configured in
that file should be described by Veritas's documentation.

Please keep us informed over your progress.

Tilo Heinrich

I corrected the config file missing. I now see this error:

No staging area is defined in the parameter file.
The path of Backint for Oracle is not defined in the parameter file.
The name of the history file is not defined in the parameter file.
The name of the input file of Backint for Oracle is not defined in the
parameter file.
The name of the output file of Backint for Oracle is not defined in the
parameter file.
The name of the error output file of Backint for Oracle is not defined
in the parameter file.

Can you give a 10000 foot view of the config files that are needed for
backint to work?

I currently have the following config files:
Backint_cfg (it contents):
BACKINT /sapdb/TYL/db/bin/backint
INPUT /sapdb/data/wrk/config/logs/backint_adapter.in
OUTPUT /sapdb/data/wrk/config/logs/backint_adapter.out
ERROROUTPUT /sapdb/data/wrk/config/logs/backint_adapter.err
PARAMETERFILE /sapdb/data/wrk/config/logs/backint_adapter.config

Backint_adapter.config(it contents):
BACKINT /sapdb/TYL/db/bin/backint
HISTORY FILE /sapdb/data/wrk/logs/backinthistory.out
INPUT FOR BACKINT /sapdb/data/wrk/logs/backint_adapter_program.in
OUTPUT FOR BACKINT /sapdb/data/wrk/logs/backint_adapter_program.out
ERRORFILE FOR BACKINT /sapdb/data/wrk/logs/backint_adapter_err.out
ORIGINAL_RUNDIRECTORY /sapdb/data/wrk/TYL

I see it looks for another config file? (backintoraconfig.utl)

Not sure what I am missing. I am not using Oracle in this case.

Thanks

Tilo,
I saw that earlier but my config file does exist in the directory. I am
not sure why it is not picking it up? I changed the location of the file
earlier this morning but it does not seem to pick it up. Do I have to do
anything special in order for the config file to see the new variable?

Thanks

Hello John,

Looking at the last backup attempt (2006-03-02 09:56:56) one can see the
error message "The file
'/sapdb/data/wrk/config/logs/backint_adapter.config' does not exists."
So far, you have taken step 3 of
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/maxdb/en/83/f718a89e867446a29f5d822c409efa/fram
eset.htm . The missing file is described in step 2.

Tilo,
Yes I am trying to use Veritas NBU tool via the backint program. I am
sure my configuration is incorrect. Please see the attached. I would
really like to write to tape. But I just want to get something working
via backint. So I am trying the pipe. I initially tried to write to file
but it told me that was not one of the choices.

Thanks

Hello John,

By creating a backup medium with a name starting with the four magic
letters BACK, you are trying - willingly or unwillingly - to use a
backup tool that supports the Backint for MaxDB/Backint for Oracle
interface. If you are not trying to use such a third party tool I would
suggest to rename the backup medium into something not starting with
BACK. If you are trying to use such a backup tool your backup tool
configuration files are not yet correct. If the latter is the case,
please send file dbm.ebl to the mailing list, so that we can sort those
problems out.

Subject: Backup_start error

I have done the following to try and get the backup_start to execute.

* created a backup medium (to pipe)
* created the config file with minimal parameters
*       enter the commands:

dbmcli -d dbname -u uid,pwd
util_connect
backup_start BACKMAXDB DATA

I get the error :

-24925,ERR_PREPARE: preparation of backup operation failed Can not
create file 'FOR'.
(System error 13; Permission denied)

There is no indication as to what directory is having the problem with
the permission denied

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance
