Hi Michael, thanks for trying out Mayan.

The new release message that comes up is an Ubuntu message and not a Mayan
EDMS message. The virtualbox image was made a while back and a few new
versions of the operating system have been released. The appliance as it is
right now is not updatable. And a new one will need to be created for the
new version of Mayan. Updatable containers is a new topic in computing
that's why a project to create a new type of appliance using a Docker
container was started just
recently: https://github.com/mayan-edms/mayan-edms-docker. The good news is
that installing Mayan is now easier than
ever: http://mayan.readthedocs.org/en/latest/intro/installation.html

To customize the settings you would need to have your own install of Mayan
and follow these
steps:
http://mayan.readthedocs.org/en/latest/intro/installation.html#production-use

The learning curve of Mayan was been lowered drastically during these past
few months, but by it's nature of being built using Django (a web app
framework) itself written in Python, some familiarity with those
technologies is expected during the installation, configuration and
deployment of Mayan EDMS. There is a worldwide network of Mayan EDMS
solution providers: http://www.mayan-edms.com/support/ that can take care
of those details.
