Sorry for being too sloppy in my original post. I first used the build_inplace.sh script inside src/lib/enthought/ without any command line options and hence it calls setup_enthought.py, not setup.py. Using "./build_inplace.sh numpy" recommended in GrabbingAndBuilding calls setup.py and works find as I subsequently posted.
