I did look at it earlier today, had a go, and couldn't find the
correct bit of tvtk to import. After your prompting I had another go
and found the examples/off_screen.py which got me past that stumbling
block...

Unfortunately, your wondering was well placed, as the hack suffers
from the same problem as using the standard snapshot button, giving me
the same garbage images. At least that's another data point to,
hopefully, help work out where the problem lies.
