I wrote something about a year ago to read MP3 tags, from the 3v1 to 3v2.4
standards. It was quite straightforward and I found what I needed easily

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID3
and
http://www.id3.org/Developer_Information

I didn't need to write the tags so that made it easier. Let me see in the
next day or so if I can find the stuff.
