I might have made a different decision than Apple, but perhaps you can 
understand given THEIR scope of the issue.

They could have kept the QT functions but simply routed them to the new 32/64 
functions, but then often a developer (could be you?) wants to take the 
opportunity to redesign things that either were not optimally designed or 
didn't pan out with the technology that occurred since it's inception.

Often with software you want to start over, and I can't help but think that QT 
is so old that it was almost mandatory that they "start over". But again, 
remember it's not just age.

So I get it. What they did with file management was worse - they changed from 
FSSpec to FSRef's, while hailing it was the best thing ever. It didn't take 
very long to deprecate THAT into CFURL. In contrast to QT, QT's longevity is 
amazing, but nothing lasts forever.
