It should not demand a reboot unless some files are still in use.  Even in
that case, the installer should prompt you to close the relevant
applications.  Of course if you don't close those apps then you may receive
a prompt for a reboot.

Personally I have never had it ask me for a reboot but I have seen the
installer ask me to close applications.
