RESEARCH WORKSHOPS through March 10, 2006 (the only ones that will be given this semester)- to help you formulate a plan now to complete fulfilling and successful research before you graduate, and to help make your application to research programs more competitive. Workshop A, How to Get Started in Undergraduate Research -explore your intellectual interests -find a faculty mentor -investigate funding sources -plan ahead for a successful application Dates in January-March, 2006 (these will be the last workshops of this academic year). Students should come to the workshop with a specific topic in mind, and in the case of a laboratory project, should be in a lab before coming to the workshop. Sophomores, juniors and rising seniors are provided with an excellent opportunity to explore their discipline, experience a research environment, and improve their opportunities for future study in their chosen field. $3,500-$4,500 summer stipend. (SUPERB) is to provide research opportunities in engineering to students who have been historically underrepresented in the field for reasons of social, cultural, educational or economic barriers. The program provides students with the opportunity to gain research experience by participating in research projects with engineering faculty and graduate students. Program runs June 11-Aug 4, 2006. $3,750 stipend +room, board, travel. Offers research internships in the humanities and in the biological, physical, and social sciences for sophomores, juniors, and seniors (not graduating in the spring semester/quarter, except UC Berkeley students). Must be declared major with 3.2 GPA, classroom lab experience, and eligibility to work in US. 15-20 positions. Unfortunately, seniors (= spring or summer '06 grads) are not eligible, although exceptions may be made for some Fall 2006 grads who are otherwise eligible.
