4. Summer Opto-Camp

Through a partial grant from ASCO, the
Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry,
the Admissions and Student Affairs team at UC
Berkeley's School of Optometry is pleased to
announce a new summer program called "Opto-Camp."

The goal of Berkeley Optometry's Opto-Camp is to
introduce underrepresented pre-health science
majors to Optometry as a potential future career
track and to prepare them to be successful
applicants to optometry school. The objective of
Berkeley Optometry's Opto-Camp is to present a
three-day "in residence" experience (June 5
through 7) that will provide participants with
opportunities to learn about the profession of
optometry and the process of becoming an
optometrist.

Information and the application are linked here:

Please note that applications are due on April 24.

5. Research - Field Research Assistant in Southern California

My name is Matt MacManes. I am looking for a
field research assistant for this summer, and
though that you might be able to help me locate
one. The study site is located in Southern
California in the Colorado Desert (Palm Desert
Area). Successful candidates will be willing and
able to endure intense heat, early morning
adventure, and hard work in sometimes
unpredictably harsh environment. Duties include
assisting with live capture of small rodents,
taking morphologic measurements, erecting
trapping web(s), assisting with radio-telemetry
study and baiting traps. This is a fantastic
opportunity for an interested individual to learn
about behavior, mammalogy, mating systems and
field biology. Although no pay can be offered,
housing will be provided for while on location.
Start date is flexible, but is preferably between
May 20 and Jun 10 and will last for 6-8 weeks
(also flexible).

In addition, research credit will be available
through my adviser, Eileen Lacey although this
arrangement is not totally worked out as of yet.
Could you please pass along this info or my email
address to interested students.
Thanks,
Matt
