We are looking for an MCB undergrad to fill a part-time position to help with the maintenance of our Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) genetic lines. The job requires 6-7 h/week, but that time can be distributed over a two week period as one desires (although one needs to stick to the same schedule once it is established). The job entails labeling the fly media, transferring the flies, and checking the lines for their health. One should have some interest in genetics, be able to pay scrupulous attention to detail in a repetitive task, and be highly reliable. The job is at the undergraduate Assistant II level, paying $10.68/h. The job will start at the beginning of the semester (08/28/06) and run indefinately. Preference will be given to those who can continue over the summer. Interested students should email a resume to Melissa Burns at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Professor Thomas W. With summer winding down, August is a busy month for many people. Some people feel as if they don't have time to give blood. Unfortunately, there are patients in local hospitals who don't have time to wait until it's convenient. We all expect blood to be there for us if we need it, but barely a fraction of those who are eligible actually give. Yet sooner or later, many of us will face a time of great vulnerability in which we will need blood. And that time is all too often unexpected. A serious automobile accident could require up to 40 units of red blood cells to help save someone's life. That blood must be available before it's needed or it may be too late. There is still time to help save a life this summer by scheduling and keeping a blood donation appointment this month and every 56 days. Donating blood costs you little more than an hour of your time, yet the feeling you get from knowing you may have helped save a life is priceless. UCB Open Thursday, Aug. 10 10am-4pm MLK Student Union - East Pauley Ball Room To make an appt. go to http://www.BeADonor.com/ or call 1-800-GIVELIFE at least 48hrs. prior to date of Blood Drive. If you have been told previously by the American Red Cross or another blood center that you should never donate blood, please disregard this message. If you recently made a blood donation, or if you have already scheduled an appointment to donate blood, please accept our thanks on behalf of the patients whose lives you may have touched. To donate blood you must be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 lbs. and be in good health. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The above message does not necessarily represent the views or opinions of the MCB Department, its student clubs, or UC Berkeley.
