The inaugural event will be held at Monterey Hill restaurant in Monterey Park, CA (Los Angeles area) during the Cal winter break from 6:00 PM – 9:30 PM on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. It will feature a free gourmet dinner, multimedia lecture, fun, mentoring, and networking for current Cal pre-medical and pre-pharmacy students. Dr. David Lieu (Cal chemistry and MBA alumnus, physician, and UCLA clinical faculty member) will host the event and present a multimedia lecture entitled “The Road to Become a Physician: A View from the Baby Boomer Generation.” Students will learn what Cal was like in the 1970s, listen to music from that era, relive the most important events of the Baby Boomer generation, understand why medical school was the goal of so many students, and learn about current medical school admission requirements, costs, curriculum, the national internship and residency match, specialization, and medical practice. It will make you laugh. It will make you cry. But most of all, it will make you think. After the lecture and dinner, students will have an opportunity to network with practicing physicians and pharmacists attending the event. The event is free for current Cal students but registration is required. Space is limited and the deadline to register is January 4, 2015.
