The Musical Instrument Museum is a new museum, seeking a key team member, the Director of Technology
The mission of the Musical Instrument Museum is to celebrate the history and diversity of musical instruments from cultures representing every country of the world. Museum guests will gain an appreciation for both the musical similarities and unique differences among cultures, countries, and ethnicities by seeing the instruments, as well as audio and video of them being played. Essential duties: In partnership with senior management, develop a comprehensive technology strategy to support the museum's mission and the guest experience. Oversee the selection, implementation and ongoing support for the museum's hardware and software, both for guest transactions and back of house. Specific duties include: Work with building team to design networks for gallery experience, security, and back office operational software. Manage RFP process, negotiation and implementation for museum software, including but not limited to Donor management, store POS, ticketing systems, etc. Manage RFP process, and negotiation, and installation for donated and purchased hardware such as flat screens, audio devices, computers, etc. Provide user support and manage key museum resources such as the network, servers, PCs and Macs, telecom, ticket printers, video conferencing and other technology. Develop MIM Technology department, including staffing and budget as needed to operate the museum. Oversee web site development and updates. Drive innovation and testing of new technology solutions, future proofing museum technology to ensure long term viability. Provide financial management of technology initiatives and develop cost effective technology solutions and sourcing models. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned. Qualifications: The ideal candidate must bring energy, vision, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness to this important position. Exceptional organizational, negotiation, problem-solving, and communication skills are required. Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT with experience in a major building project preferred. Bachelor's degree and appropriate formal technology certifications, i.e. MCA. Ability to problem solve, work independently and excel in a high performance team culture. Project management experience. An innovative mindset and a strong working knowledge of emerging technology trends. Advanced computer skills, an ability to quickly learn and use software, understanding of networks, and web savvy. Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate appropriate technical information in a manner that can be understood by other team members. Ability to work responsibly with confidential information. Other: This position reports to the President and Director. As the museum evolves, some of the duties of this position may change. Located in Tempe, AZ during planning stages of MIM; located in Phoenix, AZ once museum is constructed. Interest in world music is a plus!
