I don't chime in here much - but I've used raisers edge, more specifically I've worked with their NetCommunity web based CRM a couple of years back. NetCommunity is an OK product if your staff has little to zero web development experience and just needs to get some basic stuff up on line. But if the question question how good is the API ? Well, at that point I'm going assume you have a developer on staff. And it's at that point I'm going to have to say it's expensive, poorly documented, lethargic in support calls/issues, and therfore not that great. Frustrating would sum up my experience.
Than again I know Blackbaud has been on the move the last couple of years acquiring and developing new products -- so maybe things improved ? Hate to trash a product, but if it's an API your after and your intent is to build some nifty applications leveraging Raisers Edge I'd say look elsewhere rather than cranking out some half baked solutions.
