I'm forwarding a reply from Keir Winesmith, because the list wouldn't let it post for some reason:

Everything else we were using, or planning to use, was based on open APIs. In the end we turned to another BlackBaud product, eTapestry. We now connect membership across eTapestry, our ticketing provider and our online and physical stores - via some API glue we wrote relatively quickly. Users can sign up as members online through eTapestry and get discounts in our store or free entry to paid exhibits within 20 minutes or so. In my opinion this sort of integration would be next to impossible with RE. I've been meaning to write it all up, but it's hard to find the time. Good luck!
