GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Walker Art Center is looking for a creative and committed problem solver to help develop our new website and maintain multiple existing sites. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking web team with aggressive schedules and creative freedom working on exciting and groundbreaking projects. RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in the design, development, coding, testing, and documentation of new web applications and software. Responsibilities involve developing new and maintaining existing web projects using established best practices and standards in a variety of languages and frameworks including Django/Python, Symfony/PHP, and some legacy perl and Java applications. Communicates ideas with web team and external peers; willing and able to meet project timelines. The Web Developer must cultivate and demonstrate an interest and awareness of trends and best practices as related to the Internet and web development. EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS 2+ years experience in a collaborative, fast-paced web production environment. Dedicated to the use and support of open source software. Proven skills in one or more web programming language, framework, and relational database, as well as related web technologies including Apache, DNS, SEO, CGI, and XML/XSLT. Linux administration and shell scripting required, as is working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JQuery, and RESTful APIs. Experience with RDFa or linked data, Solr & Lucene, and/or mobile development is a plus. Works in team setting effectively and collaboratively.
