Hannah, You might want to look at a "webinar" format (for an example, see AAM's webinar offerings...). Also, the Smithsonian recently held an online conference (on Abraham Lincoln - see http://www.smithsonianconferences.org/) which pulled in teachers and others from around the country to learn about the latest in Lincoln research. I hear it was a great success.
