I am working on a digital archive project. I have one concern about our
dark archive, that I don't know how to address or keep it from repeating.

Currently, our dark archive is kept on a server here at our university and
our IT department has changed some directory names, causing the links to the
original files to be break, and in some cases, we can't find the file. I
have also seen this happen at other universities and I am leery about moving
forward until I can have a guarantee or a better system in place to manage
our original files.

I am wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a system (a database
perhaps) that can keep track of an individual file in a local dark archive
and update the location automatically? Or, can anyone point me in the right
direction?

Thanks,

Susie
