At the risk of going overly simple, how about a closed Facebook group?  If
robust file management isn't a major priority, it's got a major benefit in
having a low threshold to participation.  Of course, it's also feeding the
Facebook beast, which may be a nonstarter.  But it does offer easy file,
image, and video sharing along with discussion.
