Dear Scott & MCN colleagues,

In case you aren't aware of it, there's quite a lot of activity on DAMS
and DAMS implementation in museums going on in the UK at the moment.

The Collections Trust has published 'SPECTRUM DAM', which is a guide to
the integration of DAM strategies, systems and workflows alongside
existing Collections Management practice. The publication is freely
available for download from
http://www.collectionslink.org.uk/spectrum-dam.

We are also hosting a one-day event on 'DAM for Museums' on the 27th
November, and plan to publish the presentations and key outcomes from
that conference on the Collections Link website
(www.collectionslink.org.uk). Information about the event is available
at http://www.collectionslink.org.uk/events/dam2013.

The focus on DAM is part of our broader strategy about integrating the
managing of physical, digital and intellectual assets into a coherent
body of practice. The background to this work is provided in two blog
posts
http://www.collectionslink.org.uk/discover/sustaining-digital/1766-cope
and http://www.collectionslink.org.uk/blog/2012-responsivemuseum.

I'm not sure whether you'd be interested in responses to the survey from
European museums, but if you are, drop me an email offlist and I will
push it out to our UK and European networks.

Yours sincerely,

Nick Poole

Subject: [MCN-L] Museum DAMS Research Survey - Share and Receive

---Please forgive any cross-postings.---

Dear Colleagues.

I am currently working with funding from the non-profit Artstor to
conduct a short survey on the current state of digital asset management
"DAM" in museums. The purpose of this research is two-fold; 1) to
develop and share a profile of DAM in museums today and; 2) to research
the relevancy of Artstor's media management software Shared Shelf
program in relation to museum DAM needs.

The results of research survey will be shared with all participants who
provide their email addresses after completing the survey and will also
be presented during a session at the Museum Computer Network conference
this Fall (http://wired.ivvy.com/event/MCN13/agenda).

The survey contains between 15-22 questions (depending upon your
responses), is organized into 5 sections and should take under 15
minutes to complete. Because of the somewhat ubiquitous nature of
digital asset management, the survey is targeted at anyone who shares
any knowledge or ownership of the process including librarians, visual
resource specialists, photographers, registrars, new media and
publications managers, information technologists and others. If you
receive this invitation and feel there is someone better suited to
responding, please forward it to them.

The deadline for completing the survey is Friday, November 1st.
I would greatly appreciate your input and look forward to sharing the
overall findings with you.

The survey can be accessed at http://sandboxstudios.org/dams

Many thanks in advance,

Scott Sayre Ed.D.
