Hello Heather,
I know the 4% statistic has been floating around for a long time, but I haven't seen statistics to support this number across multiple museums. We typically see numbers much higher than this especially for fee based tours at temporary exhibitions and at sites that distribute guides inclusively with the admission ticket. I think it's important to look at the type of museum and the pricing structure to find a good comparison. I find that on-site staff commitment and marketing efforts will affect take-up rates much more than the availability of an app on a personal device. I do think organizations are using their visitor services team to promote tours more effectively and that is reflected in strong usage numbers. - Julie Julie Twitmyer Managing Director of the Americas Acoustiguide Inc. I?m wondering if anyone has updated that statistic, especially considering that many museums are moving to mobile platforms that allow visitors to use their own devices so they are no longer dependent on using museum provided devices.
