OK Rob, so the only SIG that shouldn't be folded in is California? (We're
the only regional group I know of that has sent e-mail recently.) That's a
little harsh. :) I sent out announcements to the entire group for Cal SIG
activities in case there were some out there who didn't sign up officially
with me but would like to join now that they know about our activities.
Shocking but true that there are some California MCN'ers who haven't signed
up for the SIG (you know who you are ;-)) I think putting the name of the
SIG in the subject is the way to go.

In fact I don't use the "official" CAL SIG list anyway when sending
specifically to the group about those members-only beach volleyball games
at-sunset-when-the-waves-are-perfect, I use my own which is more complete.

I vote we use the mcn-list for all our SIG related business & put the SIG
name in the subject line.

Hi all,

Combining the lists makes sense to me. At last year's Standards SIG
meeting, discussion of merging them was favorable, and a later query
to the SIG list elicited no opposition. Since the main list and SIG
lists have little traffic, folding them together could enliven mcn-l
without swamping our in-boxes. Diane's suggestion of SIG subject
lines strikes me as useful. This might also attract new SIG members
if folks notice interesting messages with SIG-prefaced subjects.

And if some SIGs' postings really aren't relevant to non-members,
maybe their lists could stay separate if they wish? Regional SIGs'
postings might be useful only to a spatially bounded community,
unlike postings from topical SIGs with potential relevance
unconstrained by location. (And that way we MCN'ers not on the West
Coast wouldn't get all wistful at news of California SIG beach
parties and other distant festivities.... ;) But seriously, might it
be good for regional SIGs to have the option even if the other
(topical) SIG lists are all happily assimilated?

cheers,
Rob Lancefield (Standards SIG chair)
