Copyright Advisory Network Seeking Individuals Interested
in Scholar Program

The Copyright Advisory Committee for the Office for
Information Technology Policy (OITP) is seeking applicants
interested in becoming â Copyright Scholarsâ for the Copyright
Advisory Network (CAN).

CAN is a Web site (www.librarycopyright.net) and bulletin
board where librarians discuss copyright dilemmas and
concerns online. CAN does not provide legal advice to
librarians with copyright queriesï instead it is an online,
learning community where librarians can discuss common
copyright concerns, get guidance from the network
participants, and explore various options and approaches to
library services where copyright is an issue.

If you are a librarian with basic knowledge of copyright and
are willing to volunteer time to help others, you may be
interested in becoming a Copyright Scholar for the Network.
Selected individuals will receive free training from
copyright experts so they can think through common copyright
dilemmas and provide assistance to others with real-life
copyright conundrums. Scholars agree to devote a small
amount of their time (2 hours a week max) responding to
copyright queries posted to the Network. You can decide how
long your commitment to the Network will last but it must be
for at least one year.

To express your interest in becoming a Copyright Scholar,
write a letter that details any special training or expertise
you already have that would make you a good candidate for the
job. The Copyright Advisory Committee will select the lucky
applicants from the pool of letters received.

Send your letter or any questions you may have to Carrie
Russell via email at [email protected]. Deadline for
applications is August 15, 2005.
