Marisa, Please see www.UPDIG.org
Universal Photographic Digital Imaging Guidelines This is an inter-organization initiative of digital photographic agencies (ASMP), archivists (SAA), stock houses (Getty Images), photoresearchers (ASPP), camera mfrs (Sinar,Canon), academics (RIT) and software vendors (Microsoft,Adobe) who are identifying common basic practices across disciplines. It's very much a fledgling work-in-progress but there are some very good ideas on the public web site. I represent MCN to this group and I expect to report back and listen to the MCN community at the national meeting in Pasadena. Hopefully, the digital preservation side of UPDIG will be richer by then. I'm looking for best practices/ standards for original digital photography. We have an agency looking to use digital cameras to capture images that will have a permanent retention period. Their records officer was looking for guidance from us as to requirements for permanent digital photographs (including aerial photography) that may end up in our Archives. I want to be able to come back to them with camera specifications and file format specs that will guide their camera purchasing decision and digital file processing. We currently have scanned image guidelines, but that isn't very helpful in their case. Any ideas?
