Hi Dave, I am embedding physical dimensions into the image files of the subject depicted. I use the VRA Metadata Panel/Palette (we're going back and forth on a relaunch name). With this tool, multiple dimensions can now be added for one image file.
http://metadatadeluxe.pbworks.com/w/page/74156486/VRA%20XMP%20Info%20Panel At present, I'm not sure if we follow specific standards in our data entry for the measurements, but have a working group which came to a consensus on how dimensions should be captured for our collection. 3D objects are H X W x D, centimeters first, then inches. If the object is on a mount, we add a separate dimension for the mount/base, and then an overall for both together. Paintings are canvas, then framed, then frame only. Works on paper is Image then plate (if detected), then sheet. All of this information is added from the database to the image files within my workflow. I add all basic cataloguing information of the object as well as Getty thesauri terms (which are now linked through the Panel) so that it matches the original cataloguing records as much as possible. I am intrigued by this ruler and look forward to testing this further. Thanks for sharing! I hope this helps!
