Quite right. The imminent arrival of DVD-A will also recreate a DCC vs MD
situation, I think. Sony have also missed a trick limiting the format to two
channels. DVD-audio I think will support more? I would guess that Sony see
it as a niche product only - Mobile Fidelity style, but would be only too
happy if the market exploded. The fact that the industry is so worried about
MP3 seems to suggest that they think that people aren't too worried about
absolute sound quality. People are quite happy with mini systems and boom
boxes, and might even be prepared to put up with something worse.

 I think one thing's for sure - if they want to get anywhere with a new
format, they've got to get the packaging right. In my opinion, this is the
main reason why pre recorded MD's seem to be dead in the water.
