Never noticed that before, because I do all my titling from the remote with
the NAME button, and if you're playing a track, the only titling you can do
that way is entering or editing the name of the track currently playing.
If you go through the edit menus, you can select something else (another
track or the disc itself) to title, but then play switches to the track you
select or stops if you select the disc name.
So my Japanese-market unit works the same way.
