I have these. How well do they work? Well, they certainly don't put
you into total silence. For listening to music on a plane, they are
a big improvement. Using them, I can actually enjoy listening to
music on a flight, something I couldn't do with earbuds or the
earphones that came with my 702. My impression is that they cancel
a lot of the engine sounds (the steady low-to-medium pitched rumble).
They don't cancel as much of the higher pitched sound of the air
passing over the surface of the plane. You also have to realize that
by canceling the rumble, you may hear other sounds more. For example,
if the passenger across the aisle is reading a paper, you'll hear
the paper sounds when he turns a page. At first that disappointed me
because I expected them to cancel that outside sound too, but OTOH
this shows what a good job they do of cancelling the rumble.
Personally, I'm glad I bought them. Although I don't fly that much,
I seem to be more relaxed at the end of a flight.
Another point: these certainly aren't super great phones apart from
the noise cancelling function. That is, using them with the cancelling
turned off when you are in a quiet place. In this case, I'd say they
are about equal in quality to the phones that came with my 702. Not
bad, but nothing to write home about.
Hope this helps.
