Have you ever considered that the discs themselves are bad or that your MZ1 is
mis-aligned and creating the problems ?

Can you describe this playback problem ? I've never heard of any TDK MD60
relate problems.

Last I checked the R55 has megabass, it is a small button on one of the sides of
the unit. Or do you mean the mega bass is not as present (audibly) than the R50
?

Depends whether you like the longer battery life and jog dial of the R50, or the
smaller footprint, larger backlit remote, and titling with the remote features
of the R55.
