Nope. They sit in your ear and block out the noise outside. The only thing
that's active about it is the music!
But then again, that's why they cost a packet 3#-)

I take it they are "active" negative-feedback noise reducing phones?
Rather than spend a few dozen dollars on phones, wouldn't it be better it
big cities spent some money on mass-transit systems-- up here we have
the Metro in Tyne & Wear (NE England). It isn't quiet but sure beats
sitting
on a bus for half an hour.
