The 702 DOES NOT have a digital optical output. Trust me. I used to sell
these things and we were not able to find any new models (portables) that have
a digital optical output.
This has been mentioned and asked about maybe a hundred times on here.
The original Sony portable did have a digital optical output. Many of the the
new portable CD players have one, almost all MD decks and many CD decks have
them, but not the portables.
So don't feel cheated that your 722 does not have one. Neither does any other
portable sold in recent times.
Don't ask my why. I can only speculate and my opinion would be no more likely
correct then anyone else on the lists.
At first I thought it was to conceive power. But if that was the case they
could add a simple switch to cut of the LED when you were not using the
digital outputs. Besides on the portable CD players the LED stays on all of
the time and many of them have very long playing times.
Don't forget also thatyou can not make a digital copy of an MD from an MD
copied digitally from a CD or other digital source, such as a DAT. So it
seems that including the digital output would be useless.
